Pharmacological properties of cat's collicular auditory neurons.

چکیده
Effects of various drugs on the collicular auditory neurons were examined by means of pressure microinjection and microelectrophoresis methods. 1 . Acetylcholine had stimulating action on 67 % of the nuerons tested. Most of them showed a relatively fast onset and a slow recovery. 2. Monosodium-L-glutamate excited 85 % of the neurons tested. The action was exerted with a relatively fast time course and by smaller doses than those required for acetylcholine. 3. L-aspartic acid also had an excitatory action. It was clearly much weaker than L-glutamate. 4. Eserine sulphate stimulated 60 % of the neurons tested.

Visual response properties in the tectorecipient zone of the cat's lateral posterior-pulvinar complex: a comparison with the superior colliculus.
The medial portion of the cat's lateral posterior-pulvinar complex (LPm) receives a prominent ascending projection from the superficial layers of the superior colliculus. This region of the thalamus has been suggested to serve as a relay by which visual information from the midbrain could be conveyed to extrastriate cortex. In order to determine how the functional organization within the LPm co...

It is well established that neurons in the retinorecipient layers of superior colliculus (SC), the mammalian homologue of the optic tectum of other vertebrates, are extremely sensitive to moving stimuli. In our studies we have distinguished several functionally distinct groups of neurons in the retinorecipient layers of the SC of the cat on the basis of their velocity response profiles. Our dat...
متن کاملCorticofugal modulation of the paradoxical latency shifts of inferior collicular neurons Running title: Corticofugal modulation of latencies of collicular neurons
The central auditory system creates various types of neurons tuned to different acoustic parameters other than a specific frequency. The response latency of auditory neurons typically shortens with an increase in stimulus intensity. However, ~ 10% of collicular neurons of the little brown bat show a “paradoxical latency-shift (PLS)”: long latencies to intense sounds but short latencies to weak ...
متن کاملCorticofugal feedback for collicular plasticity evoked by electric stimulation of the inferior colliculus.
Focal electric stimulation of the auditory cortex, 30-min repetitive acoustic stimulation, and auditory fear conditioning each evoke shifts of the frequency-tuning curves [hereafter, best frequency (BF) shifts] of cortical and collicular neurons. The short-term collicular BF shift is produced by the corticofugal system and primarily depends on the relationship in BF between a recorded collicula...
